Local Heritage Celebration at the Annala Museum

The Pyhäjoki Local Heritage Association warmly invites everyone to a heartfelt local heritage celebration on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at the Annala Museum (indoors).

The event is open to all ages and offers a diverse program, including musical performances, sing-alongs, speeches, reminiscences, and local heritage-themed photo displays.

Guests are also welcome to take part in the association's "Know Your Hometown" photo identification contest. The event will conclude with coffee service for all attendees.

The most colorful library in the OUTI library network is the heart of the community. Pyhäjoki Library warmly welcomes everyone to read, borrow, spend time, meet friends and acquaintances, attend events, organize their own activities, and enjoy exhibitions. Pyhäjoki Library was a finalist in the 2024 Library of the Year competition.

Tipirieha

Tipirieha is a new nature-themed event open to everyone, taking place in Pyhäjoki!

It will be held on the same day as BirdLife Finland’s nationwide birdwatching competition, Tornien taisto (“Battle of the Towers”).

The birdwatching tower in Parhalahti has been the top-ranking tower in the competition for several years. The main venue for the event is Tankokari Harbor, which is also where the Parhalahti birdwatching tower is located. Now it’s time to celebrate the joy of birding together by the sea!

This outdoor event is free and open to all, starting at 2 PM. The program includes games for children, music, and grilled sausages for sale – although you're welcome to bring your own snacks too.

Attention all nature and bird enthusiasts: From 2 to 3 PM, Pauli-Pekka Österberg from the North Ostrobothnia Ornithological Society will be present. He’ll showcase the scenery through a spotting scope and share tips on how to get started with birdwatching.

Pauhalla Statue

The Pauhalla statue, located in Pyhäjoki, serves as a reminder of a time when fishing was an important livelihood in the Raahe region. Herring, in particular, has been fished from the waters of the area. The plump spawning herring was called pauhakala. It was caught during the pauhapyynti season using pauhapaatti boats. Pauha refers to a herring shoal where waves roar during a storm. The word has remained in use in the Raahe region to this day.

Artist, sculptor Prof. Kari Juva sculpted the bronze Pauhalla statue in 1987. The front of the statue bears the inscription: "God grants great catches to the sons of Pyhäjoki", while the back reads: "To the work of past generations."

Palosaari Naturetrack

Palosaari naturetrack runs 2 km in forest in renovated forest ranger´s hut environment. By the path you get to know different forest type´s bird selection and to trees.

In Autumn when there are berries, its worth to look around. In Palosaari and it´s near by forest there are good berry and mushroom booty. Palosaari used to be forest rangers hut in 1861- 1975.

Renovated hut from 1900´s belongs to the Metsähallitus´s oldests forest rangers huts. Nowadays Palosaari is model of wildernes services by which has been founded 27 ideal areas for different games. The hut was granted year 2009 international wildlife Estates nomination.

Kaukonranta Old Fishing Banks

The old fishing banks of Pyhäjoki tell a story of the fishing traditions of the past centuries. Boats were set to the sea, nets were dried, and the boats were tarred in the fishing banks. There are dozens of protected boat and net houses and fish sheds on the three fishing banks of Pyhäjoki.

Rautiperä Sports Area

Get active in Rautiperä on Ski tracks and outdoor routes, with disc golf, ice swimming, on the sledding slope and cross-country skiing.

The renewed tracks of Rautiperä are ideal for skiing! The area has illuminated routes of 1 km, 2.5 km, 4 km and 5 km and starting and finishing areas suitable for a wide range of sports activities. Up-to-date track information is available in the Rautiperän ulkoilualue Facebook group.

The lights work with a photoswitch and automatically turn off at 10 pm. Rautiperä has a spacious parking area and a time-locked toilet, available from 8 am to 10 pm.

Outdoor routes
The renewed routes of Rautiperä outdoor recreation area are perfect for all ages. The illuminated and well-marked routes are easy to move along with a stroller as well. Please note that the disc golf course crosses the exercise track in some places!
